Working on new material...

It's been a little while since the creative juices have flowed, but let me tell you - they are a-flowin'! After a very productive weekend, I can safely say that there are 8 tracks that are destined to land on the new album. Here's a few little hints to what you might expect... The sound has evolved since our first album in 2004.  It's still got a trip-hop vibe to it - most tracks hover around the 90-110 bpm area.  This album will definitely be instrumental, however, where "Music for a Film" was a collection of shorter tracks, this album has fewer, but longer tracks.  Tentatively, we're looking at 10-12 tracks, with the possibility of including some instrumental, remastered, retouched versions of our earlier work. It's still "dark", and borrows sounds from Mogwai, Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails, and Conjure One/Delerium.  The one big difference is the blend of electronic and acoustic sounds.  Percussion plays a huge role in most tracks - and they're really in your face for a few of them.  Many of the tracks also include cellos and orchestral sounds - something I've wanted for a long time. Music for a Film was self-mastered... and as you are all probably aware, mastering an album is an artwork unto itself.   This new album will likely be mastered at Silverbirch Studios again.  They can take the album to the next level Still working on track names and an album name.  One tentative track name is "King of Hearts"... More updates to come, along with a sample of the new sounds!

Download the track "floodlights" for free

For being so awesome, we've decided to offer the track "Floodlights" as a free download. This is track 04 off of Midnight Eyes, featuring Edie Marshall on vocals. This is one of my personal favourites, and brings back many fond memories while recording parts of this album in my old basement apartment in Mississauga, Ontario. Music for the iPad game, "Nanite"

The Silk Demise is providing the music and composition for Nanite, a puzzle/adventure game for the iPad. Developed by A Priori Games, and due out this summer, the game uses several tracks from Music For A Film. Which tracks? For now, that's a surprise.

We've had a sneak peek at the game and we can tell you this: it's crazy fun.

Stay tuned for more updates...
